The Saint Louis Science Center, in partnership with the 2014 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show, the Regional Departments of Economic Development, and the St. Louis Regional STEM Coalition, is excited to bring to your attention an opportunity for all area educational institutions.
Public and private sector organizations have come together to develop the First Annual Spirit of St. Louis STEM Expo and Air Show. The formal program will be held May 3 - 4, 2014 at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Missouri.
However, if there is enough interest, the event organizers are considering the creation of a special field trip opportunity on the Thursday or Friday, May 1st or 2nd, before the weekend Air Show for area school children.
What is unique about this event is that YOU will have the chance to shape it to best meet the needs of teachers from 5th grade through college. Area schools would be able to bring students to the Spirit of St. Louis Airport to explore a wide range of exhibits and interactive activities designed to help students discover the fun, importance, and opportunities that abound with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
Assuming there is enough interest, the event is intended to include a range of experiences: interactive STEM exhibits and activities, proximity to high performance and acrobatic aircraft in a wide range of situations, from static displays the children can touch to watching formations flying overhead. It is intended that attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with aviators, scientists, and others involved in STEM-related careers. We need your feedback to create the best Field Trip experience.
The world-renown U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron are scheduled to be the featured performers for the Air Show, flying Boeing F/A-18 Hornet jets designed and built in St. Louis! The show will include a variety of other civilian and military aircraft.
The Saint Louis Science Center considers this an amazing and unique opportunity for teachers to participate in and even shape a most exciting event, increasing its relevance and alignment with their STEM curriculum goals. This is a chance to stretch your imagination and inspire event organizers and sponsors to reach new heights of relevance and excitement.
THE FIRST STEPS:
ONE: Mark these dates on your Field Trip Schedule 2014.
TWO: With no obligation to attend, fill out the short questionnaire below to help us determine the level of interest in this event. Those who indicate interest will receive more information going forward.
Any 5th through 12th grade teacher who responds to our questionnaire and provides their contact information by 1 June, 2013 will make themselves and their school eligible for a surprise package of additional benefits.
In addition to the Saint Louis Science Center exhibits, the Spirit of St. Louis STEM Expo and Air Show looks to be a superb opportunity for teachers to bring STEM to life.
For additional information you can contact Pamela Braasch, manager of School & Public Programs and Camps, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
