The James S. McDonnell Planetarium will be CLOSED on Thursday, May 17th and Friday, May 18th for roof repairs. We apologize for this inconvenience. Visitors will still be able to park in the Planetarium lot and enter through the Planetarium entrance but the exhibits will be closed.

A 40 minute dark sky Planetarium show* in the Orthwein StarBay including a live presentation The Sky Tonight which explores the current evening's night sky wonders.

  • In between star shows take a self-guided tour of the Boeing Space Station and learn about living and working in space
  • Try your hand at various space missions in the SBC Learning Center

*All Boeing Space Station exhibit areas are closed during the dark sky Planetarium show. Guests will be asked to gather in the Orthwein StarBay during this time.


Mr. Hubble's Universe
The Hubble Space Telescope was named after one of the most influential astronomers of our time, Edwin Hubble. Take a tour of our Universe revealed by Mr. Hubble's Telescope as it unravels the mysteries of the cosmos.
Teachers: This show is recommended for grades 6 - 12.

Moon Rock
"Shake the Planetarium. Do the Moon Rock!” Rock out with second-grader Emily and her rock star friends “The Cosmic Rays” as she learns all about the Moon in this new musical created especially for the James S. McDonnell Planetarium for grades K – 2.

Seeking New Earths
In the classic science fiction TV show, Star Trek, the ship and crew visited many fictional worlds with intelligent life. In this new Space Show we explore the real knowledge of planets orbiting other stars, where we are in our hunt for these planets and the possibility of life elsewhere in the Universe.

The Little Star That Could
The story of an "average" star who travels the universe in search of planets.  Along the way he makes many discoveries about stars, planets, galaxies and himself.  This show is recommended for early childhood age, and is a great show for early childhood groups.
Teachers: this show is recommended for grades K-2.

Metal Moons
Born in a time of intense political intrigue, satellites have been circling the earth since the late 1950's. Today’s world has become heavily dependent on these “metal moons” some of which are even visible from your own backyard! See "Metal Moons" TODAY and learn more about artificial satellites and find out how you can actually spot some of them orbiting high overhead.
 

Star Hoppin'
Everybody watch me fly! Life on Earth just isn’t exciting enough for 12-year-old Kate. Until she learns how to Star Hop. Fly across the sky with her and meet Big Bear, Polaris and more in this new animated musical for kids, now playing in the James S. McDonnell Planetarium. Meets Missouri State Science Standards for grades 3-5 and is great for families!
