Friday, September 5: Doctor Who Geek out on the first Friday of every month! Learn the real science behind science fiction at our First Fridays events. Join us this month for a celebration and exploration of all things Doctor Who! There will be free screenings of Doctor Who episodes starting at 6:30 and contining throughout the night. Our featured speaker, Dr. Edward Gomez from Cardiff, Wales, will present “Traveling to Alien Worlds”, offering an astrophysicist’s perspective on The Doctor’s travels in the TARDIS and the aliens and planets he encounters. Tickets for this special presentation are $4 in advance and $5 at the Doctor Who First Friday. Tickets for the free episodes are available starting at 6pm on the evening of the First Friday event and are distributed on a first come, First served basis. First Friday activities such as our presentations, sci-fi trivia, 10pm sci-fi film, etc. are primarily designed for adults and recommended for audiences 16 years and older. Our public telescope viewings and free 7pm Planetarium show are recommended for all ages.

Ever wonder what dinosaurs ate for dinner? Join Science Center staff as we explore dinosaur dinner menus and how their teeth were adapted to specific meals. You will even make your own cast of a real dinosaur tooth! Designed for families with children 5 and up.

The Saint Louis Science Center is excited to partner with Tau Beta Pi- a national Engineering Honors Society to provide STEM Engineering based programs for children grades 3-6. MindSET is a national initiative led by Tau Beta Pi to help K-12 students get interested in STEM careers by organizing a variety of programs that are both fun and educational. Using engineering concepts, attendees at MindSET sessions will learn about various types of unmanned spacecraft and the design processes that are used to build them. Participants will then have the opportunity to design, build and test their very own spacecraft! September 13 (10am – 12pm) October 4 (10am – 12pm) November 1 (10am – 12pm) Cost is $5 per person. The Saint Louis Science Center has teamed up with the Gateway Electric Vehicle Association to bring you the first annual electric vehicle car show! This is a great opportunity to check out what electric vehicles are all about. We will have owners of all the major EVs including Teslas, Leafs, Volts, and even some home built conversion electric cars to check out. The show goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the James S. McDonnell Planetarium parking lot. Concession stand will be available.

Made with Code Parties at the Saint Louis Science Center! What can a young woman do with code? Literally anything! Coding and computing skills provide a foundation in problem solving, creativity, and communication skills that will help a young women succeed and stay competitive in whatever she chooses to do. Young women, ages 12 to 17, in the St. Louis area will get a basic introduction to coding by attending a Made with Code Party this fall at the Saint Louis Science Center. Funded by Google and Girls Inc., these parties are a collaboration between the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the Saint Louis Science Center.
