05/08/2015 - 6:30pm to 10:00pm
On Friday, May 8 grab your friends or your date and enjoy a geeky night out at the James S. McDonnell Planetarium. Enjoy drinks, a classic science fiction movie and live star show exploring two of our Solar systems dwarf planets, Pluto and Ceres. In 2006 Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet much to the dismay of many, but this reclassification can provide a platform for us to better understand the true nature of our Solar system. In July of this year the NASA spacecraft New Horizons will flyby Pluto and provide a much sharper glimpse of this small, icy world. We will also take a look at the dwarf planet Ceres, located in the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, which is now being visited by NASA’s Dawn spacecraft. Your admission to Nova Nights includes: A special presentation of the Live Sky Tonight exploring the dwarf planets Pluto and Ceres. A classic science fiction movie, Dune (1984) Cash bar Tickets: $10 in advance, $15 at the door Location: James S. McDonnell Planetarium Date and Time: Friday, May 8. Doors open at 6:30pm. Event begins at 7pm. This is a 21 and older event. Seating is limited. Reservations are encouraged. For more information or to purchase your tickets, call 314.289.4424. Parking for Nova Nights events is located at the James S. McDonnell Planetarium. Parking is free. To make your evening as comfy as possible, feel free to bring pillows and blankets. A limited number of floor mats will also be available. This is a dark night sky presentation, so it is important to arrive prior to the 7pm event start time. Event Date: Friday, May 8, 2015 - 7:00pm to 10:00pm Audience: Just for Adults
