2017 Pleiades National Planetarium Conference
The Pleiades National Planetarium Conference will be held in St. Louis this week at the Airport Renaissance Hotel and at Saint Louis Science Center. The purpose is to bring together planetarians (planetarium professionals) from seven regional planetarium professional organizations in the United States to advance the field and share best practices.
The conference is has sold out. Led by Anna Green, the James S. McDonnell Planetarium manager and other managers, the expected attendance is near 400 guests.
The conference will be held from Tuesday 10/10 (6:00 pm) through Saturday 10/14 (2:00 pm).
There will be some paper talks and invited speakers from all over the country and world, technology demonstrations, and a telescope party for the public on Archery Field on Wednesday night.
This is the first planetarium conference the Science Center has hosted in 25 years. The last was hosted by John Wharton, long time Planetarian at the SLSC now retired, in 1992 and previously was hosted by him as well in 1986. This is also the first time all seven planetarium regional organizations have met under one dome in the USA.
