Community Engagement means turning outward
The community science department brings the Saint Louis Science Center to the community and the community to the Science Center. Community engagement is a social level of engagement. It’s turning outward by which the Science Center, and the public collectively, build an ongoing permanent relationship for benefits and outcomes. It’s a way of ensuring the implementation of the Science Center’s mission, with each member of the community having access to science activities and education. They are able to contribute meaningfully to those activities and develop functional capabilities that enable them to participate fully. We engage the community through activities such as Pop-up Science, a series of appearances that brings science activities to various locations in the community; Science Savvy Series, quick “Man on the Street” on-camera interviews that tests one’s science knowledge, with questions specifically connected to a science center exhibit or experience; events and festivals, providing free hands-on science activities to the public.
