Boy Scout Badge Descriptions

Tiger- Sky is the Limit

Tigers will learn all about the night sky while earning this badge. They’ll learn about jobs that use astronomy, try their hand at using a telescope, discover constellations, and even create their own pattern of stars to take home.

Wolf-Air of the Wolf

Investigate the different principles of the air around us. The scouts will create vehicles, toys, and musical instruments that all use air in order to work.

Wolf- Digging in the Past

Everyone loves dinosaurs! Scouts will find out what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur in this badge. They’ll also get to dig like a paleontologist, create a fossil cast to take home, and eat a sweet snack that will teach them about fossil layers.

Wolf- Germs Alive!

Germs are everywhere! Wolves will get to learn all about the different types of germs and how they spread. Some activities include making a mold garden and fake mucus.

Wolf- Grow Something

In Grow Something, Scouts will learn all about seeds, plants, and gardens. They will create and take home their very own mini gardens and terrariums.

Wolf- Motor Away

Boats, planes, and automobiles are the focus in this badge. Scouts will create and fly different paper airplanes, test two different boats, and create a self-powered car.

Bear- Forensics

Bears will discuss forensics and how it can be used to help solves crimes. They will learn about fingerprinting and chromatography and do analyses of different substances and shoe imprints.

Bear- Robotics

In this badge, Bears will delve into the world of robots. They will get to interact with real robots, design a robot hand, and try to build their own robot.

Bear- Super Science

For Super Science, Scouts get to be scientists and investigate the world around them. They’ll get to play around with static electricity, density, and pH.

Webelos- Adventures in Science

Scouts will discuss the foundations of science, what makes a fair test, and use the scientific method in order to carry out an experiment. They’ll also learn why scale models are important in science.

Webelos- Engineer

Webelos get to dive into the world of Engineers in this badge. Different types and fields of engineering will be covered, and they’ll use various engineering principles to design and build their own catapult.

Webelos- Earth Rocks!

In Earth Rocks! Scouts will be learning about the different rocks that form and discover the different properties each holds. They’ll talk about the different geological formations around the world and even get to talk to a real paleontologist (on-site only).

Webelos- Game Design

Scouts will discuss video gaming and internet safety. Afterwards, they will take time to create their own video game levels and test them on their fellow Scouts.

Webelos- Into the Wild

Scouts will learn what resources living beings require, all while observing and discussing local wildlife.

Webelos- Into the Woods

Scouts will discover how forests and plants grow. They’ll also develop the skills needed to use a dichotomous key to identify a tree or two.

Boy Scout Merit- Astronomy

Stars, moons, and eclipses are discussed in this Merit Badge. Scouts will learn how to find celestial bodies using a planet sphere, will get to go outside for solar observation, and learn how telescopes work. The day will end with a star show in the Planetarium.

Boy Scout Merit- Chemistry

Boy Scouts will learn about the different branches of chemistry and how they apply to real-world situations. Chemical and lab safety will also be discussed. This merit badge is quick paced and not recommended for younger Boy Scouts.

Boy Scout Merit- Electricity

The Electricity Merit Badge covers electrical emergencies, home safety, currents, circuits, and fuses. Boy Scouts should bring in completed home safety inspection to be checked by the Merit Badge Counselor.

Boy Scout Merit- Energy

Boy Scouts will discuss the pros and cons of all forms of energy ranging from fossil fuels to solar. They will also talk about energy conversion and how they can reduce energy waste. Scouts should bring in a completed energy audit of their home to be checked by the Merit Badge Counselor.

Boy Scout Merit- Pulp and Paper

In this Merit Badge, Scouts will learn about the entire process it takes to create paper and paper products. They then will make their own piece of recycled paper to take home.

Boy Scout Merit- Weather

Boy Scouts will learn about the different types of weather and why it’s important to be studied in this Merit Badge. They will be working in groups for a large portion of the session. Boy Scouts should come with a weather instrument they made and a completed daily weather log for the Merit Badge Counselor to check.
