Today, Earth reaches aphelion. Aphelion is the point in an elliptical orbit where an object is farthest from the Sun.
During our nearly 365-day orbit, the Earth reaches a maximum of approximately 1.0166 AU from the Sun. Our distance to the Sun varies by about 3% over the course of the year but is not responsible for our seasons.
