In August, guests of all ages stepped into the world of cutting-edge surgical robotic technology during a Partner Pop-Up featuring Stereotaxis, a St. Louis company pioneering magnetic endovascular robotics throughout the world.

Together with physicians from BJC HealthCare, Stereotaxis representatives led stations at the Science Center showcasing the company’s newest technology to treat common heart conditions like arrythmias.

During the Partner Pop-Up, guests tried out tools used by physicians and nurses, practiced diagnosing by using a heart model and portable equipment, and participated in activities showing both the scientific concepts behind magnets and how Stereotaxis employs magnetic technology to improve heart catheter procedures. They even had the opportunity to remotely “test drive” a Stereotaxis robot like physicians do via a live feed with the Stereotaxis demonstration lab.

“It was wonderful to give guests the opportunity to understand this technology and its benefits through hands-on practice,” says Maddie Earnest, the Science Center’s associate director of gallery and exhibit content. “The experiences offered, including the chance to guide surgical robots and a real catheter through a maze, emphasize the real-life impacts of science and technology in a memorable way.”

Earnest adds, “It’s exciting for the Science Center to highlight local companies like Stereotaxis. They are another example of how St. Louis is a Science City.”
