Saint Louis Science Center Announces Leadership Transition

President and CEO Todd Bastean to Retire in Spring 2025

The Saint Louis Science Center’s Board of Commissioners today announced an upcoming leadership transition as President and CEO Todd Bastean will retire in Spring 2025.

“It has been my honor to serve this wonderful organization and its talented team for nearly five years as we deliver our mission to inspire everyone to be curious and engaged in science,” said Bastean. “I have loved my journey at the Science Center and am confident that this community institution will continue to grow and thrive under new leadership. In the meantime, we will ensure that we continue to keep pushing forward as a team throughout this transition time.”

The Chair of the Science Center’s Board of Commissioners, Dr. Mark Wrighton, has formed a CEO Search Committee with members who have a great understanding of the Science Center’s priorities and needs. The Committee recently retained executive search firm Isaacson, Miller to help lead the search, which is currently underway.

“Todd has been a tremendous leader for the Science Center over the past several years, including guiding the organizational strategic plan development, achieving several national recognitions including re-accreditation, improving its financial and operational acumen, improving its guest experience and navigating the global pandemic,” said Wrighton. “The Science Center has been a long-time treasure to the St. Louis community and region, and Todd will be leaving it in a very healthy position and well poised for the next CEO.”

About the Saint Louis Science Center
The mission of the Saint Louis Science Center is to inspire everyone to be curious and engaged in science. Named a Smithsonian Affiliate in 2016, the award-winning Science Center engages people through on-site experiences, including hundreds of hands-on exhibits, the OMNIMAX® Theater, which is one of just nine IMAX® Dome with Laser theaters in the world, and the largest artificial sky in the Western Hemisphere at the James S. McDonnell Planetarium. Additionally, the organization provides high-level informal educational programming to schools and other organizations in the St. Louis community and is home to the nationally recognized Youth Exploring Science (YES) Program, which has created a legacy of success by working with underserved teens throughout their high school years to prepare them for in-demand STEM careers of the future.
