ST. LOUIS, MO – July 2, 2026 – To further the notion that science is for everyone, the Saint Louis Science Center continues its new after-hours event series with more programming geared toward adults, ages 21 and older.

Guests at Science Center Up Late enjoy dancing underneath the watchful stare of the iconic T. rex.

An encore performance of last year’s premiere, Science Center Up Late: Experience Sound will activate the institution with hands-on activities and specially designed treats to highlight the science and technology behind sound, from music to nature. Featuring classic hits like the return of the Silent Disco beneath the watchful glare of the iconic Tyrannosaurus rex and incredible live Energy Stage demonstrations with fresh releases dropping throughout the evening.

Science Center Up Late: Experience Sound also coincides with the reopening of the James S. McDonnell Planetarium, and attendees will be among the first to view presentations in what has become the largest and most advanced hybrid planetarium in the United States. Along with a demonstration of what a hybrid planetarium is, the evening inside the Bill and Laura Orthwein StarBay will feature several performances by Ballet 314 presenting select dances from their show associated with Gustav Holst’s The Planets.

“One of the highlights of programs at the Saint Louis Science Center is our partnerships with this region’s top scientists and STEM-focused organizations, and we continue that through our Science Center Up Late events,” notes Neville Crenshaw, associate director of program content development. “These relationships allow us to create unique experiences and connect guests one-on-one with St. Louisans who are impacting the world through their work. For example, over the course of a few hours at Experience Sound, guests can meet Bob McCarthy, who designs concert sound systems for top recording artists, strum a few tunes on a hand-crafted Dekka Guitar and visit with the St. Louis company’s designers, sample the latest offerings from Schlafly and J. Rieger Distillery & Company, watch a live ballet performance and more.”

Other featured events include:

  • Be a Kid Again – Get hands-on with child favorites to re-discover sound and re-experience the fun of a day at the Science Center.
  • This Rocks! – An exhibit on the geologic origins for the hardware materials inside speakers, amplifiers and more.
  • Smells Like a Sound – Join local aromatherapist Aurelia Aromatica to use your senses to detect the relationship between perfume aromas and sound.
  • Modular Mobb – Be amazed as local musicians pair their sensational sounds with an energetic light show to create stunning experience inside the OMNIMAX® Theater.

Rieger will offer cocktail classes throughout the evening, so guests can learn to make classic drinks with fresh flavors and collaborate with the Science Center team to offer a signature drink, the Amped Up (our take on an espresso martini), available at bars throughout the event.
