We have childhood discovery down to a science.
Research shows that children grow socially, academically, and emotionally in play-based settings. The Discovery Room is a great place for you and your budding young scientist to immerse yourselves in playful exploration. Come learn with us!
This experience is free for members and $6 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or online.
Discovery Room is designed for ages 6 months to 6 years old.
Discovery Room is changing September 20!
We’re excited to share an update to our Discovery Room sessions! We are expanding the number of sessions available to our young scientists and creating more opportunities for families to experience the Discovery Room throughout the day.
Starting September 20, all Discovery Room sessions will be 50 minutes long instead of 60. This will allow us to offer more sessions to you! This will allow up to 6 sessions per day instead of only 4.
This means every Sunday we will now have two sessions for Sensory Friendly Science Time!
This will begin Sunday, September 20, 2026.

*Adults require a ticket. At least one adult must participate with every 4 children’s tickets purchased. The adult must be 18+. Children may not be left unattended in the Discovery Room without an adult.
**Free tickets for members. You can get your tickets at the box office, tickets are required for members, they are free.
***Military discounts cannot be applied online, tickets must be purchased at the box office.
What is the Discovery Room?
The Discovery Room is a self-guided, hands-on early childhood environment where children and their adults learn and play together. The exhibits, toys and activities are designed to encourage inquiry and exploration of beginning science, math, and engineering concepts.

Preschool Science Series is a program to immerse early learners in playful learning and exploration.
Location
Discovery Room is located on the second floor of the main building at 5050 Oakland Avenue. Access is available through the main entrance, then up the stairs in the main lobby to the second floor, turn to your left and go past Makerspace at the end of the hall.
