There are hundreds of miles of underground burial tunnels called catacombs that run beneath the city of Rome and its outskirts, dating back to the first century CE. Today we know of more than 60 catacombs with more than 6 million people buried there. These storage or transport vessels (vase and amphorae fragments) were recovered from the catacombs.
