Mid spring and summer are the most exciting times to spend time in our GROW gallery! Our Water Works interactive and Sunflower misters are back on for those hot summer days. The new flock of chickens are 8 months old now, and they are all laying about one egg a day. You might notice them digging holes in their chicken run- this is so they can rest in the holes and stay cooler.

GROW staff has installed new beehives in the last few weeks. These bees will work hard throughout the gallery to pollinate all of our crops. The honeybees can be found in the perennial plot next to the greenhouse. The bumblebees are housed in the brand new "Bees in the Corner" exhibit in the pavilion. Check them out on the cameras building up their hive for the summer and take a peek behind the pavilion to find the worker bees flying in and out of the hive.

Explore the grounds this summer to find new crops in the Farm Tech Field! In addition to corn and soybeans, GROW staff is growing yellow mustard and GMO hemp. We have also planted a variety drought resistant of plants including amaranth, sorghum, millet, and cowpeas. These plants all have deep root systems and have adapted to hotter climates which helps them live through dry conditions. In addition to being drought resistant, all of these plants are nutrient dense grains.
