The Discovery Room will be closed from September 8-10 for cleaning and maintenance. Thank you for your understanding!

Water, Nature, Space, and more!  Explore the Discovery Room with your young scientist.  Each area of the room allows you to immerse yourself in science learning through play.  The Discovery Room is open to everyone, but is specially designed for young learners ages 1-8.

Program sessions are 45 minutes and begin on the hour. Come and explore the playful side of science!

Water

The water section houses the aquatic amphibian, Dora the axolotl, and the long-time favorite water table. Enjoy a 270 gallon saltwater aquarium with a raised platform for 360° viewing. You can use large blue foam building blocks from Imagination Playground to make anything from a robot to a castle. The only limitations are within your imagination!

Nature

Climb inside a giant hollow log tree where the Madagascar hissing cockroaches and rainforest cockroaches reside. The MicroEye microscope allows you to examine 3D objects  more closely on a large screen. Delight your senses as you make music and smell different tree logs. Play-act in the shadow theater using six, one-size-fits-all animal costumes.

Sky

The most prominent feature is the two-story rocket, complete with an emergency escape slide and interactive computer control panels that allow you to communicate via a NASA inspired Capcom station. Create constellations, real or imagined, in the star room and launch a shuttle from Earth to a moonscape table. A solar system mural takes up the entire back wall, along with a projection of the moon that updates daily with the current moon phases.

Staff Facilitation

Besides the three new experience areas, under the red pteranodon in the middle of room, we have a staff-facilitated area with activities that change every week. They are open for about 15-20 minutes during each session and you can choose to participate or keep playing on your own.
