Preschool Science Series

About

The love of science starts early.

Research shows that children grow socially, academically, and emotionally in play-based learning environments with caring adults. Our Preschool Science Series immerses early learners and their caregivers in playful learning and exploration through stories, experiments and hands-on activities. Designed especially for young scientists, we now offer two options for little ones and their caregivers to wonder, play, and discover together:

Now offering two options:

Science Tots for children ages 18-35 months.
Storybook STEM for children ages 3-5.

Each session includes:

  • Experiments and playful, hands-on STEM exploration
  • Activities focused on helping children develop motor, language, and cognitive skills
  • Ideas for caregivers to support their child’s learning

Storybook STEM and Science Tots sessions last 45 minutes and are guided by a Science Center educator.

Tickets are required for these Preschool Science Series sessions and must be purchased at least one hour prior to session start time. They are available online, onsite at the Science Center or by calling 314.289.4424.

Upcoming Storybook STEM Sessions (3-5 year-olds)

Engineering is the process of using science and technology to solve real-world problems. Today’s preschoolers are tomorrow’s engineers and problem-solvers! In each 45-minute class we use will use a thought-provoking storybook to engage children in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) challenges, exploration and play. Little engineers will learn science and math concepts as they design and create solutions to problems connected to the characters in the story or their everyday lives.

Upcoming Science Tots Sessions (18-35 months)

Research asserts that most brain development happens in the first three years of a child’s life. Each 45-minute Science Tots class is designed to provide opportunities to support brain development and learning. Toddlers and their grown-ups will explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) topics through songs, stories, hands-on exploration, and play. Activities will ignite curiosity and wonder in young children as well as empower parents and caregivers to support their child’s STEM learning in class and in their daily lives.

Preschool Science Series FAQs

Can younger or older siblings attend the program?

Storybook STEM is designed for children ages 3 to 5 and Science Tots is for children ages 18-35 months old. If there is an additional adult present, we recommend they explore other areas of the museum with siblings outside of the recommended age group. If this is not possible, younger or older siblings may come to the session as long as the adult will still be able to assist their young scientists with session engagement. Older siblings may attend as “helpers” to their younger siblings. Any older or younger siblings who plan to participate in the class (using materials, etc.) will need a paid ticket.

Can more than one adult attend with a child?

There will be space for one adult to participate with each child’s ticket that is purchased. Extra adults will be permitted to attend if space allows. If classes are full, we cannot guarantee that there will be space for multiple adults to accompany one child.
