Each summer, the Science Center’s Youth Exploring Science (YES) Program makes an impact on STEM education by turning outward with the program’s YES Teens to deliver fun and accessible STEM learning experiences throughout the St. Louis community to inspire a curiosity for science and technology.

This summer, St. Louis community members had several opportunities to meet the YES Teens and learn about STEM in some unexpected places thanks to Pop-Up Science events. This year, Pop-Up Science events highlighted STEM topics throughout St. Louis with fun, free activities that allowed 219 community members to go hands-on with aerospace and engineering.

Community members had opportunities to explore electrical charges using static electricity, engineer a homemade air cannon using some everyday materials, and even construct their own simple musical instrument to explore how air can move molecules to create sounds.

At a Pop-Up Science event at City Museum, YES Teens DeAndre Baylark Jr. and Aliyah Johnson spark curiosity for STEM using some static electricity.

This year, the YES Teens could be found at a number of locations, including City Museum, the Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis City libraries, and more. In total, the YES Teens covered more than 85 miles as they traveled throughout the St. Louis community.
