Tonight at 9 pm, the first quarter moon is visible to the south in the constellation of Cancer the Crab. Due to the natural libration, or wagging motion of the moon, many of the craters in the south polar region are not always visible. However, tonight Haworth crater near the lunar south pole makes for a good binocular target. Many of the craters near the south pole of the moon are being considered for future crewed mission landing sites due to the presence of water ice.
