August 31, 2023

The second full moon of the month – sometimes referred to as a blue moon – occurred early this morning. Not only is this the second full moon of August, but it is also the largest full moon of the year. Neptune is located very close to the Moon tonight; however, Neptune is too far away to see with the unaided eye.

The west-southwestern sky as it appeared early this morning at 5:30 am. Both the full moon and Saturn are just starting to set along  the horizon. Star map created using Stellarium
