A waxing gibbous moon rises today at 4:15 pm. By 10 pm, the Moon will be visible high in the south-southwestern sky. With a binocular or telescope, it is possible to see Gassendi Crater in high relief near the terminator. Gassendi Crater hosts a distinct outer rim, several central peaks, and a system of rilles along the crater floor.

The image on the left shows the moon as it will appear tonight at 10 pm. Highlighted is Gassendi Crater along the terminator. The image on the right shows a detailed image of Gassendi and Gassendi A, which is the smaller crater along the Northern rim of the primary crater. Image credit left: NASA SVS, right: NASA/LRO
