Tonight at 10 pm the crescent moon is visible high over the western horizon in the constellation of Cancer the Crab. The crater Theophilus sits right on the terminator – the line between day and night on the moon. With a pair of binoculars, it is possible to see the central peak of this crater which stands approximately 4,500 feet tall (1,400 m).

The image on the left shows the crescent moon as it will appear tonight at 10 pm, with the Theophilus crater outlined in orange. On the right is an oblique view photo of Theophilus crater taken by the Lunar Orbiter 3, taken facing south. Image credit left: NASA SVS, right: Lunar and Planetary Institute
