Rooftop Concert Trivia

  • The Rooftop Concert originally happened on January 30, 1969 and is the last live concert from the Beatles.
  • Nobody is sure who came up with the idea for the concert. John Lennon, “Let it Be” director Michael Lindsay-Hogg and Ringo Starr have been credited with the idea.
  • During “Let it Be” rehearsals George Harrison quit the band. He rejoined the group after a few days.
  • To get the best sound possible and cover the sound of strong winds the day of the concert, Beatles engineer Alan Parsons used women’s stockings to slip over the microphones.
  • The police shut down the rooftop concert after 22 minutes.
  • Previous to the rooftop concert, the last time The Beatles performed live was August 1966.
  • Ringo Starr suggested that the band looked at performing either at the pyramids or inside a Hawaiian volcano. The rooftop was not the first choice.
  • Before the concert, both George Harrison and Ringo Starr weren’t sure they should perform. John Lennon convinced them, hoping it would be a new era for the band, but history shows that was not to be.
