In March 2022 the Science Center’s Community Partners meeting welcomed back our friends and partners for the first in-person gathering since March of 2020.

It was a welcome sight to see so many of our community partners back at the Taylor Community Science Resource Center, home of the Science Center’s Youth Exploring Science (YES) Program, to continue our longstanding collaboration and support for STEAM education in St. Louis.

Things may have looked a little different with masks and social distancing, but after two years of virtual meetings it was hard to miss that the partners—and the Science Center’s Community Science team—were happy to see each other’s faces again.

Marlynn Chambers, Manager of Teen Ambassadors for Community Science, leads the Community Partners meeting.

The Community Partners meeting serves as an important part of the Science Center’s YES Program by helping to connect and collaborate with community organizations who share a commitment to equity in STEAM education. Together, YES and our community partners bring new ideas to the table and help share and create opportunities to deliver impactful STEAM education experiences—like those from the YES Teens—in neighborhoods and communities typically underserved in science and technology learning.

John Nahon, Manager of Energy Stage and Earth Science at the Science Center, talks with Community Partners.

In addition to some great information sharing about upcoming STEAM activities like summertime field trip opportunities and the return of the Science Center’s Jr. Intern Program, the partners also received a commemorative coin with the message “Welcome Home, Community Partners!”.

Attendees received a commemorative coin marking the occasion.

Before breaking for lunch and a networking session, the partners got to see an assortment of science demonstrations from John Nahon, the Science Center’s Manager of Energy Stage and Earth Science, whose elephant toothpaste and electricity demos provided the perfect complement to the energy already in the air.
