Art Print, “Science!” – ca. 2015

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and that is certainly true in this instance!

This original art print brings together two icons that have more in common than you might think, the James S. McDonnell Planetarium and the TARDIS. Each one can transport you through time and space and show you the stars and planets in our solar system. Each can introduce you to science concepts and provide a gateway for you to discover new things. Each can inspire you and challenge you to look differently at the world around you. And in 2023, each celebrates 60 years as a cultural icon to the St. Louis region and beyond.

In this art print entitled “Science!” The James S. McDonnell Planetarium at the Saint Louis Science Center and the TARDIS from the science fiction and fantasy television series Doctor Who come together in a peaceful fall setting. Created from a charcoal sketch and original oil painting by artist David Carr of ArtMonkeyWorld, this print commemorates the relationship between science and science fiction in popular culture. It celebrates how the Science Center’s First Friday program uses popular culture themes like Doctor Who as a way to engage the community in science.
